TL with envelope in which Vance mentions friends and officers, including Colonel [Henry A.?] Hambright whom Vance and Liscum knew when the two were stationed at Fort Jackson and Fort St. Philip, and men charged and dismissed for drunkenness. Vance states he is happy at Fort Supply, there being a number of social activities; discusses the plan by Congress to reduce the size of the Army; and comments on the convenience of composing letters on his new typewriter. He types his name as "R. Wance, the Wigilent." Vance is probably Lieutenant Richard Vance who served with the United States Army 19th Infantry Regiment at the same time Henry A. Hambright served as the regiment's Major and Emerson H. Liscum served as a Captain.
